Cape Verde – Day 2 … or not!
Hmm – Day 2, Praia, capital of the Cape Verde islands – didn’t happen. We were supposed to take on a pilot at around 6am but by 7.30am we were still sailing at a fair clip. Good old Captain Chris (who looks rather like our son-in-law Joseph who was also a sea Captain, moonlighting maybe🤔 ) came on the tannoy and advised that he’d tried to ‘land’ the ship but the wind was 30 knots (not sure what that is in old money) which was far too dangerous with a ship of this size so we’re carrying on, slowly, to Dakar in Senegal. Sea state is currently Beaufort Scale 6 and moderate.
Probably unjustly we had decided not to disembark at Praia anyway, unless something really took our fancy, so we were unperturbed with not being able to get in.
Entertainment staff were tripping over themselves trying to whip up different activities for a sea day rather than a port day; we participated in the Spot The Music Intro quiz but drew the line at virtual bowling so we were left to just sit and drink coffee or cocktails (your guess as to which) and read in the sunshine on deck watching the swimming pool turn itself into the surfing pool with every sway of the ship.
I brought cards and dominoes, just in case, so we broke out the dommies. We were going to have a game of strip dominoes but when you’ve only got your cozzie on it kinda kills the suspense … and just in case you were wondering, we weren’t on deck for the dominoes!
Sea legs feel as though they might be a little sturdier today but I’m still taking the anti sickness pills just in case – psychosomatic? who knows, just as long as they do the trick. I don’t like wobbling down the corridor though!
